We passed the half-way point in our class novel and although a lot has happened in the story, we’ve done a good job recording major events. Having those notes has been helpful and we’ve referred to them when looking for proof of Timothy’s (main character) personality characteristics. One of the reflection questions we needed to respond to was whether or not we would want Timothy as a friend. Although many of us would want to have Timothy as a friend, a few of us would feel uncomfortable because he committed a crime (he stole a wallet). The responses were thoughtful and well-explained.
Reading House Arrest and seeing Timothy’s efforts to help his sick brother has inspired us to also do something to help sick kids. After lots of class discussion, we decided to hold a fundraiser selling bags of sour soothers - we're calling it Keys for Kids - and 100% of the proceeds will go to BC Children’s Hospital. To make sure everyone is involved, we brainstormed different jobs so everyone has a responsibility. Our sale will take place in a few weeks…in the meantime we have some work to do to prepare!
