This week we joined in on the 2015 Global Cardboard Challenge, an annual event inspired by a short film, “Caine’s Arcade” that shares the story of a 9 year old boy who spent his summer creating arcade games out of cardboard boxes. Cardboard Challenges is one way to give students an opportunity to build...and to foster 21st century skills such as creativity, collaboration, communication and problem-solving, tools our kids need for their futures that await them. After watching “Caines Arcade,” students needed to decide who to work with and what to build…and immediately started using these 21st century skills (problem-solving, communication, collaboration). And the cardboard building began with imaginations at work! Some groups were so motivated that they wanted to stay in at lunch to work on their projects!! Our projects aren’t yet completed, but here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to: | "In the coming age, creative thinking and problem solving, as well as teamwork, will be key traits for success. According to author Cathy N. Davison, “65% of today’s preschoolers will grow up to work in jobs or pursue careers that don’t yet exist.” -Leonard Sommer |
