Back in December when we were working on forming unbiased opinions about aquaculture, one our primary sources of information was Marine Harvest Canada, based in Campbell River. They answered several of our questions about PBAs, sea lice, fish food, and the involvement of First Nations in their decision-making and they sent several helpful videos, government reports and graphs. Marine Harvest was impressed with our interest in aquaculture and in forming opinions. They offered to come visit our class to share more information…and smoked salmon! Who could refuse such an offer? This week we were lucky enough to have a marine biologist from Marine Harvest make a special trip over to the mainland to visit our class. Ms. Hamel shared lots of information with us, answered our many questions and yes, even shared smoked salmon. It was an excellent learning (and teaching!) opportunity. Saying that, we need to remember that our opinions are based on our personal values and although we enjoyed the visit, the intention isn’t to sway our opinion.
