We have been learning about circles in Math and the relationship between the diameter and the circumference. We did an activity that involved using yarn and a ruler to measure the circumference and diameter of 5 circular objects found around the classroom. We recorded our measurements on a comparison chart and we needed to look for a relationship between the circumference and the diameter. To scaffold our thinking, we divided the circumference by the diameter. Right away we saw a pattern! We noticed that the circumference is almost 3 times the length of the diameter. That led to our introduction of π (pi), the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter and the more formula C = π d. It’s going to take us some practice becoming comfortable applying formulas, but we’re off to a great start. For the past few weeks we’ve been busy writing short stories that include a problem related to the impact of climate change. We finished up our drafts so we moved on to the next step in the writing process: peer assessment. When we use criteria to give feedback to peers, we help each other improve their work. It’s helpful for student who receives the feedback, but also for the person who gives it. Our peers give helpful advice…and we really value what they share so that motivates us to revise our draft. We’re looking forward to sharing our stories soon. Over the past few weeks we've been thinking about and determining how we personally self-regulate. We often face challenging situations, so we need strategies to help us become more aware of our feelings and how to manage our needs. We realized that we all have different ways to return to the green zone (calm state) and we've been working on sharing the strategies that we use to self-regulate. We have a great group of hard-working, dedicated parents at Sunrise. To thank our parents for everything that they do, we made decorative flowers with our little buddies to display at the parent tea. The next two weeks are going to be busy, but will be be loads of fun!! Here's what's scheduled:
